My paternal grandfather was Wm Charles Atherton who married late in life a Sarah in GA. He owned cotton mills and had several grown children who abandoned the younger siblins and step-mother when WC died. The oldest child was 12 years old. There were 4 children of this marriage. My father was also W.C. but was not Charles.
