Dear Sharon, Many thanks. I think that we would both agree that Mary is Humphreys first and only wife and I am glad for that. Last week I expounded a theory that no puritan would name a child Katherine , so much for that theory ! I believe that at least some of humphreys children were born in Lancs because they have standard names . I need to do some more work of the Upholand Registers but there are large gaps in these. Based on the papers I have at present I believe Humphrey had an uncle in Winstanley named Humphrey ,who has a son named Edmund baptised in february 1610 (new calendar). I have avoided the Parish of Leigh because the Athertons of Atherton lived there and the registers will be full of people named Atherton . However, that family was well documented as Puritan and sooner or later I may have to "wade through them all". Also, there was an unconsecrated chapel in Atherton and from memory its nonconformist minister led the congregation during a skirmish during the English Civil War.I have the story chapter and verse in the history of Atherton (the place). No registers have survived pre 1724. There is also the Mather connection and his Toxteth Registers are lost! However,H should be married in a Parish Church or Chapel of Ease and if they record his social rank, then we have him!! Thanks again for Marys Will. Mike. Notify Administrator about this message?
