Dear Sharon, It now looks less than probable that Humphrey Married a one Mary Wales but rather the relationship is just the marriage of Isabel Atherton to a son of Nathaniel. It is now clear from 16c registers that lancashire people did not pronounce Wales, as wailes, as in the Principality of Wales but rather as waules/ whaules and indeed by the 17th c they spell it Walls. However I will be seeking the marriage of Nathanial in England. I have circa 300 Atherton parish entries and need still more in search of the marriage of Humphrey in England though he may never have married in England but I must admit the names of 5 of his children would support a theory that they where born in England. I have a sister, Elizabeth, for Humphrey (son of Edmund) and she was born in 1611 and I have it from a reliable authority that he conveys his lands to her 1635/36. Humphrey born 1609 still remains the probable candidate because he has some money. Can I ask yet another favour. I now know all I need to know about the Rev Richard Mather in England, and he will have been some years older than Humphrey. I wonder did he make a will and who benefits from his estate ? I remain in your debt, regards, Mike . Notify Administrator about this message?
