I too am researching the Atherton family and your posting makes a connection with some of my research. You post a child by the name of Aaron Atherton with the same birth date of an Aaron Atherton that I have.
According to my research John Atherton, JR was the father of Aaron Atherton born 14 March 1796 and died 13 Nov 1869. Aaron was married twice: 1st to Mildred Hoover 2nd to Nancy Montgomery Howard who was the widow of Samuel Howard (Samuel Howard was the son of Robert Howard and Diana Atherton)
According to an old researcher:
John Atherton Jr. was the Son of Charles Atherton who was born about 1733. Charles had at least two brothers named Aaron and John Atherton Sr. Aaron Atherton was married to Christina Coleman and John Atherton Sr. was married to Sally.
I found backup for this information in many sources but much in the submission of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church in Ohio County KY.
It seems that I can find no children for John Atherton Sr. and his wife Sally. It might be that his brother Charles Atherton thus named one of his sons in honor of that brother.
My focus is on the other brother Aaron Atherton and the possibility that he is the father of Diana Atherton.
Aaron and Christina Atherton led a group of Church people--family and Friends to Union County Illinois about 1818. Among them were their Howard and Biggerstaff relative. All had inter married.
I am very interested in following this family and of receiving new information.
