This may or may not help in your search. Your name Ater, is most likely Aten. We descend from the Aten line, Yet many instances we find the name as Ater. The name was dutch and was pronounced Auten, There are many spellings of the name. "same family" Aten, Aton, Auten,Aiten, Auter, Ater, Ayton,etc. Eaton is even thrown in there for 2 lines in western PA. I have several Aten's in that area about that time frame.
