Erin;

My records indicate that the parents of William "Riley"
ATCHISON were James and Nancy ETCHISON. James was from Rowan Co., NC, born about 1805, and died in Lawrence County, Indiana in 1863. These families, whom most were buried in the Port Williams Cemetery, had both surnames that were interchangeable back then. Whether or not both names were originally different families at one time, I am not certain. But the majority of the pioneers that migrated to Lawrence Co. from North Carolina in the early 1800's were illiterate,and it has caused confusion among various spellings of their surnames.

Riley's grandparents were James Atchison (Sr.) and his wife, Christina Miller. some of his siblings were John,Jane, Lydia, and James,Jr.
