Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum
message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles
will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will
no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.
I apologize, I have not had readily available internet access for several years. I do now, at least temporarily! This is what my ggrandmother Selina Astill b. Oct 27 1861 wrote about her oldest brother John:
"My oldest brother went to New Zealand when he was twenty-one. That was before I was born so I never saw him. He married and had several children. He used to write to me after I was married, and after my children were old enough, they wrote back and forth to his children. My mother always longed to se her boy again, but never did. The year of the Queen's Jubilee, in England, 1897, my brother and his wife came to Utah on their way to the Jubilee, but Mother died in March as they came in the summer. My sisters and a brother Joe were pleased to see them. They didn't stay long as they were going by the way of San Francisco to England for the Jubilee." My ggrandmother had moved with her husband Peter (Per) Johnson to Nebraska in 1891, so she did not get to see her brother when they stopped in Utah. She gives some description of their home in England which may or may not be helpful but I will email that information to you.
