This is more or less a copy of an earlier response I made to an entry on this forum: please forgive the laziness of cutting and pasting the message, but I think it's pertinent to your situation.
Though I can't help you specifically with your enquiry, I can tell you that when I went to look for my grandfather's grave, I found that the stonemason had miss-spelt his name and that he was laid to rest, in a paupers' grave as "Astbury", having died during a tuberculosis epidemic.
I mention this just so you may consider slight variations in spelling, etc. when researching cemetery records.

My full name is John Joseph Aspray and I was born in Manchester (1 November, 1955). I lived in the Bradford/Beswick area and attended St. Brigid's R.C. school before our family left the area in 1963.
There are other details regarding my family posted earlier on this forum
The only information I have re. the origin of the generic Aspray/Asprey/Astbury name is that it means "dweller of the aspen tree corner" and has Scandinavian roots (No pun intended)
