hi yvonne thanks for email dated 21 may regarding the aspley,s sorry that i took a time for this reply to you, sorry to hear that eileen aspley passed away, this one lady that i would have to spoken to, when i was 11years old i might see her or spoken to her at a very large wedding of michael thomas ward 1951 in birmingham (son of annie agnes ward (nee aspley,) michael was born 1929)i can remember seeing the group photograph in my late parents photograph album about 200 persons ward, aspey,s becks etc.
re your information regard annie agnes aspley (later to be married to william spreadbury in 1907) i have noticed two different ways of spelling her maiden name one cragan, now on a orginal birth certificate for george thomas aspley b 27/7/1898 her maiden name is written as callaghan ( i have georges first world war service record showing his mother as annie spreadbury 6 sheep street b.ham brothers charles and james.
after reading your email my wife i worked out why i had to wear shamrock on st patricks day, and when i stayed at my grandmothers at aston near ansells brewery etc i had to sleep four in bed plus a few fleas, and as for the loo which was in a court yard you just waited for the outside loo to become vacant(this part is very long story in my life)
i now very little about my granmothers past and as for her brothers being put into that father hudsons home i can see why the boys join the army in 1914, the only thing that i know is that my granmothers birth date was 11 april 1892 belfast (annie cragan born dublin about 1863 ?)
as for very kind offer of written information on the aspleys i would just like to see it and read, including georges ww2 information and photographs, and what ever the cost is i will pay, this research which i have doing is for family and grandchildren, my wife and i and slowly writting our childhood memories, thank you for help and research work
anthony
