Hi,
I am presently trying to accurately date some family photographs that I have of the Aspdens, while doing my research. Not being familiar with the UK, I am a bit at a loss in knowing if the locations of the photographic studios where the photographs were taken assist in the work yet. There are no dates on these photos, but I am investigating ways to confirm them by other means (style of dress, pose, etc.).
I have photos of our Newton H. Aspden taken by a photographer in Blackpool, and then later at Blackburn & Darwin (no town given).I also have a picture of Newton's brother, Milton, taken in Clitheroe. I also have copies of pictures of Newton H. and Mary Jane Aspden, which don't give the studio info, but will be attempting to locate the originals for that information soon.
Newton H. and Milton are brothers of Thomas (b. 1822) and uncles of Newton John Aspden (b. 1865), our direct ancestor, who owned these photos and identified these relatives so I trust that the subjects' identities are correct (relying on his first-hand knowledge). I don't have birth or death dates on Milton or Newton, just Thomas. Since there are several generations of Newton and Milton Aspdens in several related families, I don't know if your Newton relates to ours, but hope this helps put the "puzzle" together.
Good luck,
K.A.
