Dear Doug An interesting historical anecdote for you. During the burial ceremony of William the Conqueror at Caen in 1087, the services were interupted by a local "worthy", Ascelin, who demanded that he be paid for the land on which the church stood. It seems as though William had built St. Stephens church and not paid Ascelin's father. He settled on 60 shillings and the ceremony continued. Another (Aycelin) in 1308 at Rouen played a pivotel role in the roasting of Jacques de Molay and the dissolution of the Knights Templar. Regards, Howard
