Hello again,
Thank you for your long letter. Takes a while to digest the info given and then you have to get out the family tree to see where everyone fits in.
The Richard you talked about who died of a brain tumour is also related according to my tree.
You come down from Richard b 1740 and I come down from his youngest brother John b 1752 the chap you refer to came down from Robert b 1749 another brother. My notes say that his gt gt gt grandmother was EllenBeardsall m 18.6.1857 in Tuxford. Robert was born 1826 and died in 1877. After Robert's death, the family packed to move to New Zealand, to join Ellen's relatives. They sailed on the "Taranaki" in September 1879 and landed in Dunedin in December. They have only listed 9 children.
My grandfather didn't have such grand stories to tell, in fact he never spoke about his family and it was only after his death that I found some notes left for me. His mother had tried to trace the family tree, I don't know how far back she got but when she found out that we were not related to nobility she gave up!
Canyou believe it about Trentham, we live in such a small world.
Is the lady that sent you the family tree the one that is also on the forum, called Janice Aslin?
About a year ago I sent out 80 letters to all the Asling's I could find but only got 11 replies, I didn't realise that I was looking under the wrong name!
Thank you also for the infor on the book, I'll try the local library, failing that I am a member of the Nottingham Family History Society so I could try them, I'll also try the Web.
Warmest regards
Joy
