John Askins of Charles County Maryland immigrated from England in 1658 and died in 1680. He had a wife named Rebecca and a son named John. William appears to have descended from him, but I have no details between 1680 and 1747.

William, Sr's father - John Askins, Jr., a farmer (125 acres in 1705) of Henrico Co. VA. There is a strong liklihood, though I haven't documented it yet, that he was the son of the John Askins who immigrated from England to Charles Co. MD in 1658, (the first Askins in America?)
Willaim was born on 11 October 1747 and died at Richmond, VA on 3 December 1789. [There are good records of that because he served in the 12th Virginia Continental Line during the Revolution]. William Jr. was born 18 August 1775 and moved from Richmond to the Marion District of SC (Florence County)after his father's death. He was the only person of the surname Askins living in SC at the time of the 1800 census. He had 2 sons a daughter,Robert T., William T. and Eliza Jane. There are lots of records of the Clan in SC.
