Ron,
The story that I was told by my father was that the family name "Askin" is derived from the Scots/Irish name of Erskine. When exactly the name was changed I don't know, whether it was in the UK or whether it was changed when they reached North American continent.
My father used to like to tell us that the name was changed to be more Americanized, and that there were several family members involved in this decision. No one change could be agreed upon. So now we have the names Haskins, Askin, Erskine,Arskin and possibly Baskin to deal with.
I have yet to make the connection to the Erskine line. However I do have connections to the Askin, Askins(notice the "s" at the end), and Haskins. Mostly in the state of Michigan, USA. There is some reference to Askins and Askin in Ontario, Canada which I'm trying to trace right now.
