Dear Gen R-N, If you are a descendent of Abraham Ashworth then we are distantly related. He was my great grandfather's younger brother. They were both christened on the same day, 7 Sept 1835, at St John's Church, Bacup. They were not twins however, Miles, my ggf, was aged 3 years according to a note in the margin of the register. Their older brother, Thomas, was christened a month later possibly having been unwell when his brothers were christened. A note gave his age as 4 & 1/2 years. Like Abraham, Thomas became involved in the licensed trade in Bacup as was their brother-in-law James Lord the husband of their sister Elizabeth (b 1844). Abraham, Thomas and James Lord (and his father and brothers) were members of Bacup Old Band which is pictured on the web on the excellent Bacuptimes site, which also has much information on pub life. One bit of information you have is incorrect, Abraham was a batchelor when he married Betty Dewhurst on 29 August 1859, her sister, Grace, was a witness. Their father, Luke, was also in the licensed trade. Abraham and some members of his family are buried in Bacup Cemetery quite close to Miles's grave. If you want any further information please contact me. Regards, Fred Ashworth. Notify Administrator about this message?
