Grace Ashton was the daughter of James Y. Ashton of Philadelphia. She married Gen. James Scott Negley on May 18, 1869. They had three daughters (Grace - married Enoch Farson, Edith, and Mabel). I have come across numerous newspaper, book, and official items regarding Gen. Negley and Grace as well. The latest was a bill in the U.S. Congress in 1903 raising Grace A. Negley's beneficiary pension (Gen. Negley was in the Civil War and was a member of Congress).
I am having some problems with Grace Ashton. I can't find her in the one census when she should have been 10 years old (1860). She might have been elsewhere, but, I am beginning to think that Grace was her middle name. There is an Emma G. Ashton in the household of almost the same age.
Thoughts? I haven't been able to locate her marriage record which would be a big help.
