I'm not very familiar with overseers records myself.
I think you'll have to look at the 1749 records themselves to see what they're about. The individual might be named as an overseer, or they and their family could have been the subject of some oversight business (parish relief?).

Interestingly, the 1770 record is AFTER your James married Hannah. The record MIGHT mention family .....? MIGHT link up .....?
