I am trying to track the many "coincidences" between my family line and the Asher family. Any help making sense of this would be appreciated. My 4g-grandparents William Roberts and Ann Vandergriff married 1784 in Wilkes County, NC and soon William and most of his Vandergriff in-laws to Washington Co. Vandergriffs found in 1796 court records for Carter Co. (formed from Washington in 1796). 8 February 1800: Carter County, Tennessee Deed Book A, page 247: WILLIAM ROBERTS & AMY/ANNY, his wife conveyed to JOSHUA WARD, for "the price agreed upon", 50 acres, granted in North Carolina to Jacob Wilder and sold by Wilder to said Roberts, on the south side of the Watauga River, above the plantation where Charles Asher formerly lived. The deed was proved in February Court 1800. 17 February 1801, Carter County, Tennessee Deed Book A, pages 442 & 443: JOSHUA WARD and his wife, & WILLIAM ROBERTS & wife, conveyed to ROBERT PARSON, for an agreed price, 50 acres on the Watauga River, North Carolina grant to Joab (Jacob) Wilder. John Henson, Jurat & James This might be my 4g-grandparents, since they left for Grainger County about this time. Another land record is: A-68: 14 Dec. 1795, Reuben Roberts and Milley, his wife, of Washington Co., to John Lynch of Washington County, $500, for a parcel of land in Washington Co, on both sides of Dry Run on Waters of Watauga joining lands of John Ashers ... Beg. near Ashers Spring ... 50 acres. Deed proven in Carter Co. Jan. term 1797; Reg. 27 Apr. 1797. Information suggests that this land was on Roan Creek (claimed to be named by Daniel Boone) where it emptied into the Watuauga - now under the lake and in Johnson County. There is nothing that suggests Reuben Roberts and my families are in any way related, though our families cross paths again in Anderson County, and even in Missouri in 1850. The 1810 census for Grainger County shows a John Asher living near the Vandergriffs and associated families in the Powder Springs region. The 1830 census shows an Amos Asher near the same Vandergriffs in NE Hamilton County. It would seem that some Ashers and allied families left Grainger Co for Clay County, KY. I also cross into the Bunch family, and my family was in Anderson County from about 1800 to 1831. I keep finding conflicting information as to the Ashers, can anyone help on these lines? Some of my line associated names: Roberts, Vandergriff, Bunch, Beeler, Dunkin, Wolferbarger, Grove(s), Brock, Dyer, Hunter, Atkins Thanks, Dan Notify Administrator about this message?
