Phil, This info may not be helpful but it may lead you somewhere so it's worth a try. As you know, I descend from William & Mary "Polly" McChesney. Polly's brother, Walter Jr. moved with the Ashers to the Pendleton District of South Carolina after the Revolutionary War & then in 1807 both families moved to Caldwell Co. Ky. I have nothing on a John Asher but if he was William's brother, he may also have lived in S.C. and even possibly Ky. Also, they are listed in the Surry Co, North Carolina census for the years 1784-1789 so you may want to check there for John & Jane too. Hopefully something will turn up for you. If I find any info on John, I'll let ya know.
Bobbi
