Sarah, read your message there might be a connection. In my Ashdown family I have a Minnie Ashdown who's parents were Thomas and Bella (nee Vinnie). Thomas was an electirc plater and gilder and had a businessin London on Great Titchfield St. He had the royla coat of arms above his door as he cleaned the royal jewellery. I believe that Thomas was born about 1836 and his daughter was born about 1873. Thomas and Minnie had 8 children, Thomas, Rose,Poppy, Harry, Elixa, Minnie, Jane and Amy. Thomas's father was also a thomas born about 1800 and was a gentleman farmer and secretary to an MP. I am sorry that the info is a little sparce but have only been doing this side of the family (my husbands)for a short time. Also living in Nottingham it is very difficult to access bith, deaths and marriage certs without it costing a fortune. If there is any connection please reply.
