My grandfather was Francis John Ashdown, my mother Mary Margaret Ellen Petteford (then Jeffries then Petteford). My grandfather was born we think in 1872, probably in India, and died in 1936/7. He is buried in Peasdown St John, nr Bath. We know he was a farrier in the army at some stage, and possibly later a vet. We think he served in the Boer War and India. We understand there may have been a rift with his father (David?) who may have married again. My grandfather had about 9 children.
