I know it's a long time since the original post but I've only just stumbled across the site.
Regarding Alfred & Hannah Ashdown of Peasmarsh, their son, Horace (b. Peasmarsh Dec.1859) was my grandfather and was also a Grocer.
Does anyone have information on another son, William, born March 1848? He appears on the 1851 and '61 census but vanishes thereafter.
