John Henry Ashby was married twice. First wife was Mary Ann Due.
The second wife was Sarah E. Lee (daughter of Isaac B. Lee). She, Sarah, first married a Bivin; the couple had Georgia Ann Bivin about 1861. Then Sarah (Mrs. Sah E. Bivin) married John Henry Ashby.

Sarah Elizabeth (Lee) Bivin was much younger than John was. He was born about 1815/16, she was born about 1844. They married not long after the Civil War ended. John had spent almost three years as a soldier in Company F, 6th Cavalry Regiment Illinois. He enlisted on 9 Jan., 1862; he was mustered out of Company F, 6th Cavalry Regiment Illinois on 14 Feb., 1865. John and Sarah married the following December of 1865.
