William ASHBY's discharge paper from the British army in 1767 indicates he was then forty-two years old - which suggests he was born ca 1725. The discharge papers also mention that he was born in St. Mary's parish in the town of Hull, Yorkshire. I'm currently in Salt Lake City at the FHL. I came up empty in checking the baptism records for St. Mary's parish for the period 1716-1812, but did find "possible" records for a William Asby, son of Robert Asby in the baptism records for Holy Trinity parish in Hull - about a quarter-mile away. The Ashby/Asby/Asbye baptism records for this period at Holy Trinity: *Asby chr 24-Nov-1728 William s Robert Asby Asbye chr 28-Jul-1733 Elizabeth d Robert Asbye Ashby chr 20-Mar-1739 Ursula d Robert Ashby Ashby chr 17-Oct-1738 Robert s Robert Ashby There are also two marriage records at Holy Trinity: *Asby 23-Jul-1727 Robert H Christiana Bell Asby 28-July-1748 William H Elizabeth Colam Notes: * = illegible, hard to read name H = husband The above data is on FHL microfilm 0,990,827 I'm somewhat hesitant to get too excited about these records until I can get feedback from others researching to William Asbhy ancestry. IF William lied about his age to get into the British Army, then MAYBE this could be his record....bu then I may be chasing a different William Ashby. Has anyone else in this forum disproved this record? Does anyone have any information on William's siblings? Feedback appreciated. Wes Notify Administrator about this message?
