ASHBY b. Abt. 1808 in Culpeper County, Virginia, also became a 49er in California. You can find him with his 16 yo son, BAILEY BUCKNER ASHBY, in the 1850 Census of California, El Dorado County, Mosquito Canyon, page 489, stop 3. Apparently, Baily Buckner Ashby, b. Mar 1833 VA, returned to the east coast sometime before 1860. You can find him in the 1860 Census of Maryland, Anne Arundel Co, Annapolis, page 23, stop 168. Sorry, I don't know of any John D.
