Ther has been a lot of confusion about Robert's wife because of her 1976 edition which she revised in 1982:
"The Ashby Book" Revision 1982, Lee Fleming Reese, ISB 0-9604372-2 originally listed his wife as Mary Elizabeth and after the revision changed it to ______Dorothy.
Page 10 i: "I see no contemporary references to this Robert Ashby having a wife named Mary or Elizabeth. I think he has been confused with the two Roberts in Stafford Co. Virginia.
Page 91: There were, contemporaneously, two Robert Ashbys with wives named Mary-one in Stafford and one in Fauquier County. These have often been confused, but the compiler found no evidence that those Ashbys listed in The register of Overwharton Parish 1723-1758 …are the Robert Ashby the subject of this chapter but were Robert (2) son of Robert (1).
Page 91: Deed Book 11, Frederick Co. Va P 167 List Robert Ashby and his wife Dorothy.
With this in mind I believe his wife's name was Dorothy and am looking for any Provable records to the contrary.
