Thomas Ashby Sr. (1680-1752)-Speculate
Posted by: William (Ashby) Nolan Date: November 22, 1998 at 17:57:44
  of 3671

Assuming that early settlers held tight their money and influence, and that Thomas was able to gather a significant acreage of land, he must have had a bit of both. In that earlier Ashby ownership has not been found, his parents must have been merchants or latecomers. Could his parents have arrived with Capt. John Ashby when he and Sir John Berry arrived in Jan/Feb 1677 with troops to quell the Bacon Rebellion.
