I am looking for information concerning my 6th ggfather, Simon Ashbaugh (ESCHBACH in German)married to Eva Kautzmann.I do know that my 6th great grandfather's name
was Simon Ashbaugh.
Simon landed in Philadelphia in 1749 and went to Bethel
Twp. now Berks or Lebanon Co. Arrived in Washington
County from Lebanon Co. in 1786. Simon is buried in
East Buffalo Cemetery. I have been there it is only about
five minutes from our home, but was unable to locate his
grave. I did find other family markers though. Simon was
married 04-19-1752 to Eva Kautzmann b:April 19, 1752.
Record of 5 children to this couple:
Elizabeth, b:2-2-1753 m: Peter Wolf, Jr.
Margaret, m:1-25-1774 Michael Conradt
Barbara, m:5-31-1774 Martin George Leonhardt
SUSAN, (5ggmthr) b:1759 d:7-11-1818 m: William Wolf s/o
Peter and Hannah Wolf.
Simon, b: 1766 d: 6-17-1848 m: c.1785 Mary Fennell b:1767
d:10-11-1855

We have found that my 6gg Simon Ashbaugh's son Simon Jr.
mentioned above changed the spelling on his name to
Ashbrook. That is how it appears on his headstone at the
East Buffalo Cemetery. I did find his when we were there.

The Ashbaugh/Ashbrook family lived in Buffalo Twp. here
in Washington County PA with a group of German settlers
which had begun to arrive in 1773. They visited on adjoining
farms. Three had the original grants: Michael Dennis, Lawrence
Stricker and Jacob (via William) Wolf. Others bought their land:
Simon Ashbrook 1786, Michael Ely 1791, Hardman Horn 1796.
In my research on the Wolf and Ashbaugh/Ashbrook families,
I have found that there was a considerable amount of intermarriage
within this german settlement. You may have seen some of the
other names in your research. Below is a portion of the doc.
that I found on the Ashbaugh/Ashbrook family here in Washington
County, PA. I have attached the entire document on the German
settlement if you care to review it.
ASHBROOK - ASHBAUGH - ESCHBACH
Simon Eschbach landed in Philadelphia in 1749. He went to Bethel Township,
now Berks or Lebanon County. He lived near Little Swatara (Atolhoe) Creek.
He married Apr 19-1752 Eva Kautzmann.
There is record of five children:
Elizabeth b Feb 2-1753 baptized Feb 11 m c1770 Peter Wolf Jr
Margaret m Jan 25-1774 Michael Conradt
Barbara m May 31-1774 Martin George Leonhardt

Simon b 1766 d Jun 17-1848 m Mary Fennell b 1767 d Oct 11-1855
Simon (Jr) "Ashbaugh" went to Washington County (Pa) about 1786. He made an
agreement on Jan 2-1786 with George Meily of Lebanon Twp, then Dauphin co to
purchase a farm about a mile north of Jacob Wolf. William and Jacob Wolf
were witnesses. William Wolf (Simon's brother -in-law) was to handle the
details. He eventually backed down, so the land went back to Meffey. Simon's
tombstone in East Buffalo Cemetery, where Jacob and William Wolf are buried,
reads "Ashbrook".
