Geri,

Thanks for your response to my message. I have been trying to make some progress on tracking down my paternal lineage. My great-grandfather was Marshall O. Ash m. Lena Coe in Lawrence County, Ohio, on October 7, 1884. Their children were Myrtle, Ruby, Roxie Elizabeth and Herbert W. Roxie Elizabeth was my grandmother who married Coleman G. Smith about 1905 in Cabell County. My grandparents lived in Huntington until my grandfather retired about 1955 and then they moved to the Merritt's Creek area of Barboursville before returning to Huntington when they could no longer be on their own.

I recently found that Marshall O. Ash was the son of Daniel Ash and Mary M. (Morgan?) Ash who were farmers in Barboursville. They are in the 1870 and 1880 Cabell County census lists. Their parents are listed as having been born in Va.

Do you know if your grandfather Jack Ash was descended from this Daniel? The 1880 census shows a child named John M. Ash who was 10 years old. Is he your grandfather?

I now live in Texas, so it is a slow process to dig into the records of that area. I would appreciate any information or leads you could provide to me.
