Howdy, Eva !

Found the marriage record of Eli Ash and Sarah Allen. It was impossible to find because it's listed as "Eli B.C. Ash". I didn't find it by looking for it. I just sort of tripped over it.

They were married May 20, 1886, in Howard County, Indiana, and lived in Kokomo. She had a son by a prior marriage. I have an actual copy (from Mike Peterson, on the internet) of their marriage license.

They were still together in the 1900 Indiana census in Howard County.

There is another record (not related to this) where Eli D.C. Ash is listed as Eli D.C. Aah, simply because of sloppy handwriting on the census record. Crazy.

If Eli had married a Copple, it would have been very short lived and there is no record of it in Indiana. Mary Hooper died in 1882. As the only source for this Copple name is a deceased Phares family relative, who was speaking and I believe mis-remembered the lady's last name, I don't accept it as factual because there is no documentation to support it, only the reminiscence of an elderly gentleman.

Bonnie
