I'm seeking information on the husband of Catharine Ash, John Alexander. They are listed on the 1860 census in Jackson County N.C. John hasn't been found on any earlier census. Family tradition suggests that his parents weren't married and that John took the surname of his mother. Tradition also suggests the father's surname was Allison.
Any information would be appreciated.
