Neil of the county of Scott and State of Virginia of the one part and second Samuel Ash and Andrew Ash and Thomas Ash and George Robinett for Mary Ash and Elizabeth and Lavina and Matilda, heirs of Daniel Ash deceased of Scott County and State of Virginia of the other part, witnesseth that for an in consideration of the sum of thirty five dollars to them in hand paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath this day bargained and sold and by these present both grant bargain and sell to the said H. P. Neil all our right title claim and interest that ever have to the estate land of Daniel Ash decd. lying and being in the County of Scott on the water of the North Fork of Clinch River and is bounded as followeth to wit Beginning at two hickory and a beech thence, N 65 E 110 poles cropping a branch thence thirty six poles to a chesnut oak and a dogwood thence 36 poles to a chesnut oak and dogwood on a Ridge thence S 25 W 120 poles to a spanish oak and hickory and a beech on the point of a ridge near a spring branch thence W 24 poles to a hickory and dogwood on a side of a hill ridge thence S 65 E 180 poles to the Beginning this tract of land is bounded on the North by W. Kinney estate land and on the South E. by H.P. Neil supposed to contain one hundred ____ acres be the same more or less to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all its appurtenances there unto belonging or in every wise appertaining to the sole use and behalf of him the said H. P. Neil and his heirs forever and the said Samuel Ash and Andrew Ash and Thomas Ash and George Robinett for Mary Ash and Elizabeth and Lavina and Matilda heirs of said Estate for themselves and their heirs do covenant of and with the said Hezekiah P. Northwestern Arkansas History, History of Benton County, [p.20] SETTLEMENT. page 21. Daniel Ash was a very early settler near the State line north of Garfield, and in 1849 Jacob R. Forgery, from Scott County, Va., settled in the same neighborhood.

Notes for Nancy Ann Mahala Thornton:
My mom said that "Drew" Irwin and Nancy Thornton were related (cousins or something like that). She had two children by him but they never married.
Nancy Ash would read the grains of tea or coffee left in the bottom of a glass and had, on several occasions, predicted someone's death. When her sister, Lois, died, she had dreamt that she saw her sister on a cloud waving to her and then she disappeared. Nancy found out the next day that her sister had indeed died from food poisoning, although the family believed otherwise. Rumors were that she was poisoned since her husband wanted to marry another girl who by the way he married two weeks later.
On another occasion, she saw stars falling and ran into the house. Upon everyone reassuring her that the stars were indeed NOT falling, she told them that one of her children was going to die. Her son, Leonard, was run over by a train.
Ironically, Leonard was killed on the exact same spot on the tracks as Lois' fiancée many years earlier. Nancy had warned her sisters fiancée not to go to work one day. She had seen him standing in a doorway wearing very old style nickers. Upon mentioning it to others, they saw nothing and when she turned back, he was gone. He was also hit by a train the next day while crossing the tracks. This happened at the old gravel plant in Pacific across from the Pennsylvania Glass and Sand plant where my dad worked (on Osage Street just east of town).

Notes for Stella Agnes Thornton:
Stella's father was Green Berry Ash, and her mother, Nancy, confirmed this. However, she didn't care much for Green Berry and since her mother was not married to him at the time of her birth, Stella went by Thornton (her mother's maiden name) and never took the name of Ash even after her parents had married. She used Thornton as her maiden name on all documents except for the birth certificate of her daughter, Norma. On Norma's birth certificate, Stella's mother gave the information, rather than herself, and she gave the name of Stella Ash.
Stella Thornton attended Warren School in Miller County, Missouri and finished 7th and 8th grade at Sullivan, Missouri.
