I am looking for any information on Wyatt Bolling Asbury b. ca 1758, poss. in Stafford Co., VA; parents are John "William" and Jane "Jean" Bolling Asbury. I've seen somewhere where this Wyatt Bolling/Bowling was married to an Elizabeth ? Can anyone place the below Elizabeth with this Wyatt Asbury. Elizabeth Asbury from VA was in Grainger Co., TN with 4 young boys named James, John, Thomas and Spencer (poss. William Spencer). These boys would all have been born in VA in the 1790s. Not sure what county, but I'm thinking Russell/Tazewell because of the proximity to Grainger. Another Asbury researcher, thinks Elizabeth's maiden name may have been Collins due to the fact that Spencer Asbury (one of her sons) was enumerated as a Collins in the 1850 census for Grainger Co., TN and it should have been Asbury. Also, she feels that Elizabeth may have brought the boys to the area after her husband's death for help from the Collins families with raising the boys. Thanks Gwen for this information. Elizabeth Asberry was ordered to present her boys in court on May 18, 1803 by the sheriff for apprenticeships. Apparently, their father was deceased by this time and this was normal. Elizabeth Asbury is on an Early Tax List for Grainger Co, TN in 1810. Then in 1812, still in Grainger Co., TN, Elizabeth Asberry was again ordered to bring them to court. In November of the same year, the proceedings regarding the Asberry children were "quashed" This is from "Grainger County, Tennessee Apprenticeships 1797-1873. James M. Asbury, b ca 1795 in VA was my 3rd gr-grandfather. He was originally married in 1815 in Claiborne Co., TN to a ? Dodson gal (anyone have a name/family for her?) , had 2 sons by her, Spencer (b ca 1819) and Crispin (b ca 1825); then sometime after 1825, the first wife dies and James M. marries a Letha Collins who has a son Bryson/Brison Asbury whom she is living with in 1860 Census. James Asbury is enumberated in the 1860 Grainger Co., TN as an "ARbury" and is living on the Temple Hutchinson farm and is working as a laborer. The Hutchinsons are a few lines down in the enumberation. Crispin who is my 2nd gr-grandfather married in mid 1840s in Claiborne Co., TN a Prudence Collins (b ca 1825-1832). I can't find her family either other than she may have had a brother named Wesley. There was a Wesley (age 18) in the 1850 census in hers and Crispin Asbury's household. Crispin dies sometime in the late 1850s poss. in Grainger Co., TN. Prudie/Prudence marries an Alex Collins (poss. a cousin) in 1859/1860. They are all found on the 1860 Census for Whitley Co., KY with their combined families. Brown Lee Asbury b. ca 1851 in TN was my great grandfather. He and his older brother, James A. Asbury, (b. ca 1845 in TN) are the progenitors for the Campbell Co., TN Asburys and their allied families. Thank you, Charlene Oliver Williams Notify Administrator about this message?
