Dear Harold,
After more research, I have found a census entry that gives me a possible year of birth for George Washington Asberry as 1834. Is it possible the Geo. W. you reference above as being born in 1839 is the same person? If one were reading (or writing!) a census, it would be easy to mistake one for the other. Do you have sources I can reference for the move to IL? According to another family member's research, my Geo. married Anna Jane Smith in Clay TN 1878 (poss. a second wife).
However, the 1880 census lists Dau. Martha as being born in 1876, so that marriage date may not be correct. There's a needle in this haystack somewhere. ;)
