None of the information in your posting is correct. This information you have posted comes from a book by George Bennett which is, on the whole, in total error. His daughter tried for years to correct the errors he published, and it saddens me to see it continually accepted and published in genealogical forums as truth.

There was no Joseph Asbell and Dorothy Ross. It is a myth created by Bennett. The William Asbill in question did not fight with Washington, but served in the Georgia dragoons under Colonel Marbury during the Revolution. He lived in Randolph County North Carolina and moved to Madison/Estill counties Kentucky.

I urge everyone to check their sources before posting information. Just because it is published by someone does not make it true.
