My grandfather, John Asbell, died when my mother was 4 months old. She was born in Springfield, Mo in 1904. Her mother's maiden name was Louise Lawson. My mother's birth certificate was destroyed when the courthouse burned down -- or that is the story told us. She said very little about her childhood and her father. As both she and my Dad have passed on, I would like to trace my maternal roots back to through that line of the Asbell family in Missouri and Arkansas into which my grandfather was born. There are several hereditary diseases which run in my family -- diabetes, Parkinson's disease, hypothyroidism -- all auto-immune problems handed down from my Mom's side. Any help as to where to begin, and where to find a Missouri census of 1910 would be appreciated.
