John Artz, son of Henry and Christina, was born near Woodstock, Va, 10 Oct. 1793,married Sarah Lambert, daughter of Abraham, 18 Nov. 1819. This family moved to Ohio about 1832 and then on to Mercer Co. Illinois.
Henry Artz, father of John, was born in Pennsylvania about 1756, son of Johannes and Elizabeth Greathouse Artz. Henry probably married twice and died in Shenandoah Co.Va. in 1817 or 1818. First wife not known and about 1792 married Christina (family not known). Henry lived on the Shenandoah River east of Woodstock, Va. He wrote a will 12 Oct. 1817 and it was probated 9 Feb. 1818 (Shenandoah Co. Will Book "K",p. 391) Christina died 29 Mar. 1819, "in her 52nd year" (Death Notice in Shenandoah Herald).
