Robert Martin Artz was born in 1825, son of Henry Artz and Elizabeth Bird Artz, who married 7 Oct. 1822. Robert served in Co. "B" of the 33d Va. Infantry in the Civil War and was killed in the Battle of Second Manassas, 28 Aug. 1862. Margaret Ann ("Peggy") was born 22 Dec 1626, daughter of Isaac and Catherine Spiker Funkhouser and died in Strasburg, Va. 22 Jan. 1914, age 87. She and her four children lived with her aged mother for years and on 14 Mar. 1878 Peggy married Abdel Davis of Strasburg, where he died in 1884. She lived the rest of her life with her daughter, Orietta, who married William H. Stoneburner, in Strasburg, Va. The House still stands on Queen St. in Strasburg. Children of Robert and Margaret (Peggy) were:
1-Rebecca Jane Artz, b. 11851, died about 1880. She married Green B Jenkins, 1876, no children.
2-Ann Elizabeth (Betty) Artz, b. 1852, m. Martin Jarrett, died 29 May 1942. No children.
3-Orietta Artz, b. 1855, d. 10 Oct. 1937, married Wm H. Stoneburner, hwo died in 1901. They had one daughter, Mary Margaret Stoneburner, b. 8 Nov. 1896, m. G. R. Grant of Strasburg. She died several years ago.
4-Martin Luther Artz, b. 1 May 1859, d.15 Nov. 1938. m. Lucy Crabill, daughter of Joseph Crabill. They had four children: Joseph Robert, Mae Rebecca, Charles Mackall and Regina.
