The 3 oldest sons of Phillip came to Washington County & owned stores in Hagerstown, MD. Namely: Henry Artz who was born 30 May 1760 & died 1806. His brother, Christian, was the adm. I have no other info on Christain. I descend from Peter Artz Sr. born 1768. His first wife was Anna Maria Schaffer & after her death he married Mrs. Catherine Clippinger of Shippensburg, Cumberland County, PA. Peter died 4 Dec. 1834 & is buried in Washington County.Peter & Anna Maria Schaffer had: David born 26 Oct. 1793, Sarah born 2 Nov. 1795, married William Heyser Jr. & died 8 Jan. 1813, Rev. William born 1 June 1804 married #1 Sarah Troxler 10 Oct. 1829 & died 19 April 1876 in NC, Peter Schaffer Artz born 22 Jan. 1807 married #1 A. Catherine Wunderlich Feb. 1834 #2 Barbara Ann Clippinger 18 Jan. 1837 Both marriages took place in Shippensburg. He died 24 April 1872. Susan Artz was born 22 Oct. 1797 married a Miller, Mary Artz Ann Rebecca Artz born 28 Aug. 1812, Henry Artz, Samuel Artz & Anna Maria Artz born 30 Jan. 1800.

When I was at Lancaster last year I could not find the listing for where Phillip & Anna Barbara are buried. Do you know? Also, did Anna Barbara marry a Lutz in 1790? I had thought maybe Cornelius came to Washington County, MD but it must have been a nephew. It seems that the names were used in every generation making it hard for a researcher to figure out who is who.

Do you have the information from the book "Rineland Emigrants" by Don Yoder, that tells about Phillip & the emigration from Freudenstadt? I had copied it many years ago & when I found the will of Phillip in Lancaster I remembered it because of the word nailsmith in both the book & the will.
