Philipp Artzt of Cacalico Twp, nailsmith, names wife-Anna Barbara, Children: Henry, Christian, Peter, Christiana, Sophia & Cornelius. Died Feb. 23, 1790 Probated May 7, 1790. From the book "Rhineland Emigrants" edited by Don Yoder Page 43 Johanna Philipp Artzt, aged 29, nailsmith by trade, with wife Maria Barbara, aged 26, and children: Sophia Dorothea and Catharina Christina (4 weeks) From the city of Freudenstadt, Wurttemberg, Germany. there was a mass emigtation in the year 1752. Page 44 The nailsmith Johann Philipp Artzt gave as his reason (to emigrate) that it was impossible to support oneself in Freudenstadt, since iron and coal were getting more expensive every year, and he could not compete with the foreign artisans of his trade, who as a conquence of cheaper raw materials (iron and coal) could produce more cheaply and underbid the native mailsmiths out in the country and in the market towns.
