The information I posted came from L. A. Huckaby relaying information from The Arter/Arthur Family of Fountain Valley, sent to me on a previous query. The information for Mary Jarrett, came from my own investigation. I read a Civil War book about the Rebels coming into Chambersburg in June 1863 (on their way to Gettysburg). Jacob Jarrett (Mary's brother) was talking to one of Stonewall Jackson's men & told him he should get down on his knees on his mother's grave & ask for forgiveness for fighting in such an unjust cause. The story was told by a neighbor lady living in Cbg, her husband was a Captain for the North. She also said this soldier was born & raised here & he also had a brother in this army (assume Confederate). Anyhow, Mary (Jarrett) Arter died May 1863 & is buried next door to her fathers's house, (3) doors down from her brother's house. I could never prove it, by I strongly believe that is who they were talking about. Now I need to look for Civil War records for Jacob Jarrett Arter & Charles Daniel Arter. I am sorry I don't have any info for you on your Stephen Wood Rittenhouse, but I truly would appreciate any info on the Arters/Jarrett, especially considering the source. Thank you for your response. Regards, Ed Jarrett Lemasters, Pa ejarrett@innernet.net
