I have copies of the Arter family bible pages which give birth, marriage and death dates for Daniel's 2 families, his wives, parents {Abraham/Magdaline}, grandparents (Michael/Catherine) and several other persons. There were also a few personal notes. The bible was published in 1839 and is currently at the Cairo, IL Public Library. Last entry appears to be the death of Milly (May 27, 1886). Most of the information is consistent with the info you have.
The birth dates of the children suggest that Daniel and Mary issued Sarah Rebecca (6/19/20), Jacob Jarrett (9/15/21), Charlette Mariah 3/18/23), Harriett Elizabeth (4/1/25), Ann Eliza (8/27/27) and Charles Daniel (9/13/29). With Milly he issued Dealia Angeline (3/18/33), Darias Abraham (8/2/35), Armarala (5/2/37), Freaman John (10/1/39), Laura Jacinta (4/30/41) and Isabella (1/15/44).
I have a copy of a short biography on him in the "History of Alexander, Union and Pulaski Counties,Illinois) ed. William Henry Perrin, Pub.1883 (4 years after he died) that said that he was a very successful physician. During the Civil War he accepted an appointment from President Lincoln to the position of Surveyor and Collector of the port of Cairo. It discribed him in his latter years as being very religious, authoring and issuing pamphlets on his beliefs.
It appears that he was quite open about the fact that he was married before.
The bible had no information on Mary's death.
Regarding "Stephen Wood Rittenhouse" (my great grandfather) I have yet to find any reference that has his first name as Stephen. All my information has his name as Wood Rittenhouse. He had an uncle in Ohio with the name of Stephen Wood Rittenhouse. Was this information also from the book "The Arter/Arthur Family of Fountain Valley"?
