Hi Again. I was just surfing the net & came across this page.Don't know if you seen it or not, but other reseachers might like it also. When I can get a way to the Acadian Museum in Miscouche, i will see what I can find.

JAMES MADDIX

b. 1795

Some believe there was only one James and he began having children at age 57 with a second wife, Scholastique Arsenault, including one child at age 68. Others believe James b. 1795 was father of a second James b.c. 1829, and it was James Jr. who married Scholastique Arsenault in 1851.

In 1829, James became godfather of Melaine Aucoin in Egmont Bay. In 1843, James’ wife, Anne MacDougall was godmother of Stanislas Gallant in Egmont Bay. Was MacDougall her maiden name or a first-married name?

1Paternity Documentation James to James: Circumstantial. Family tradition has it that James was 60 years old and having just married his 2nd wife before he began having children. It is more likely that there was a James Sr. and James Jr. and that the “second” wife actually belonged to James Jr.

2Paternity Documentation James to James, Joseph, Gilbert: St. Jacques Roman Catholic baptism records. 1881 census with Christy (Scholastique) as head of house with children Joseph (proven son), William, Gilbert, and James (proven son). 1901 census Prince Edward Island with Gilbert as head of house and mother as Calistie, b. 1830.

3Paternity Documentation Gilbert to Alphonse: 1901 census Prince Edward Island show Gilbert with son Alphonse. WWI Draft Registration card – Maine Military Men, Serial # 2723859 listing parents as Gilbert and Marie Arsenault Maddix.
