Hi,

Well, you may be back to square 1 on this one. I have a copy of the St-Gabriel de Brandon births/baptisms, but there was only ONE Arsenault born there before 1900, a Marguerite in 1843, daughter of Augustin Arsenault & Elisabeth Morin. There are no other Arsenaults listed as having been either born or baptized in that parish before 1900.

In the next parish of St-Didace, there are several Arsenault families but none match with your great-grandfather's date of birth.

I found only one Arsenault and Henrichon marriage: Eugenie (not Marie-Anne!)ARSENAULT d/o Romain & Emérentienne Eliot, who married Olympe HENRICHON s/o Georges & Emelie Beauparlant at St-Damien de Brandon (also next door to St-Gabriel) on 25 Feb 1889. Olympe HENRICHON was the widower of Arsélie Therrien (who is distantly related to me). This first marriage of his occurred in St-Damien in 1883, but really has nothing to do with your family. There is no Marie-Anne married to a Henrichon anywhere in Berthier County other than this one; they could have married in Providence and moved back to Canada.

Your best bet is to contact St-Charles Church on Dexter Street and get a marriage certificate for Arthur and Rose-Alma, and ask them to include their parents' names on it as well as place of baptism, which should be in the parish marriage register. Or become a member of the American-French Genealogical Society in Woonsocket, who can perform the research for you for a fee. Their web site is www.afgs.org/ and have access to records both in RI and in Quebec. All I know is that Arthur was NOT born in St-Gabriel despite what you have on paper from Rhode Island (obit or death certificate) or I would have found his baptismal record here in my library.

If your Arsenault family is from Providence then undoubtedly, you are on the right track, as the vast majority of the families of St-Gabriel, St-Damien and St-Didace ALL migrated to Providence, Warren, and Woonsocket, RI at some time or another, looking for employment in the textile industry here. My own grandmother's family from St-Gabriel was among this vast number of emigrés from this region, and they settled in the same parish in Providence. If this Henrichon family belongs to you, then know that three Henrichon sisters d/o Edouard & Elisabeth ... married here in RI: 2 in Woonsocket and 1 in Warren before 1900. Will keep my eyes open, Dennis Boudreau
