Joseph Ballard married Sallie Arwood, daughter of James Arwood, in Buncombe County and their first child Susannah was born August 1815. She married James Rice and both were on the 1900 Census of Buncombe. Joseph Ballard was born Nov 1794 and lived until Nov 1884. Sallie died about 1850 and Joseph remarried. Most of this is from the grandson of Joseph, Rev. John Henry Ballard - in his autobiography. James 'Arerwood' took out a NC State grant for 50 acres on the Paint Fork of Little Ivy on 30 March 1819. (File 2468)The land adjoined John Hammond and Joseph Ballard and James 'Arerwood' were the chain bearers for the survey. About 1836 Joseph and Sallie moved to Macon Co, NC and are mentioned in the minutes of Sugar Fork Baptist Church. Any information on these people, especially Sallie, much appreciated. After Sallie died, Joseph moved to Reems Creek, Buncombe County.
