Albert,
I am working on Jeptha Arrison as a supplemental patriot for the DAR.Your December 19 post caught my eye.I am trying to sort out the Arrison wives and children also.First, I am interested in knowing your source for “Jacobina”.The two sources that I have, “Wintermute Family Heritage” and “Early Germans of New Jersey”, do not name his wives, but ut they do give information about Nancy or Anna- as it appears on her tombstone[1750-1809],married to George Wintermute, Sr.[1748-1837].
According to “Wintermute Family Heritage”, page 31, “Jeptha Arason as family tradition says, was commissioned by King George, of England, as a surveyor of his possessions, receiving in payment a large tract of land in northern New Jersey.” On page 22, it is stated that, “John George Windemuth married the eldest daughter of John Peter Bernhardt-Margaret Elizabeth[1721-1800]; Casper Shafer[1712-1784] married Maria Catrina[c. 1722-1794]; and the third married a ‘ widower by the name of Arrison in 1760. They moved to Pennsylvania about the time of his marriage. There was serious trouble with the Indians during the Revolutionary War, and he was forced to return. Arrison died in 1828. His son was a blacksmith at Stillwater in 1790, and 1794 removed to Philadelphia.’”On page 16of that book, it states “George Wintermute, the eldest son of Margaret Elizabeth, married Nancy Arason, who is presumed to be a daughter of Jeptha, who would thus be his first cousin. We are led to this belief as we find the name Jeptha being perpetuated among the descendants of George Wintermute.’” “Early Germans of New Jersey”, page 264, also states, “A third Bernhard daughter who married Arrison[ a widower] in 1760. “Pioneer Families in Northwestern New Jersey”, page 155, states, “The Arrison family of Stillwaterwith whom the Newmans must have been acquainted suffered the same disaster. Jeptha Arrison with his wife and numerous offspring removed from Stillwater and settled at Shamokin near Sudbury, Pennsylvania, whence they were driven away by the Indians in the time of the Revolutionary War and fled back to Sussex, losing nearly all their property, both lands and effects.
If you have Jeptha’s birthdate or the name of his first wife (& her birth & death dates) I would appreciate that or any other information.
