Jesse K. of Wilkinson Co.,GA (1845-1915)
My wife's ancestor, Jesse K. Arrington was born in 1845, and died in 1915.A historian of Wilkinson County, Georgia told me that Jesse was "a mystery man".That he claimed to be from Alabama, and that he just appeared in the county as a teen before the Civil War.He had no known relatives in the county and he never talked about his kin.He lived out his life in Wilkinson County, except for the years he fought as a Corporal in the CSA.He became a County Commissioner in 1880's and 90's, and was well respected. He married Frances J. Smith right after the Civil War was over-- and they raised a large family of upstanding citizens.
Has anyone heard of a story of one of the Arringtons that ran away from their family about 1860, never to be found again? He might not have been from Alabama, maybe he was from some other part of Georgia. We wonder why he was so secretive about his background. Any clues will be welcomed. Thanks.
