Hi John. You were correct about there being Arrowsmith's in County Durham, England. This was one of the few counties where they lived from at least 1400's. Initially, they appear to be one family, the heads being farmers, several being Lords of the Manor! The main parrishes where they were found in the early days were Cockfield, Barnard Castle, Staindrop, Winston ( where Aaron the Cartographer was born) Sedgefield ( where his father was born, as well as mine!)Great Stainton, Auckland, Eggleston and Aycliffe. Durham Record Office has a searchable website, as has Durham University, Newcastle University, and Kew records office, all of which have rellevant information. I read them on the original parchment, with seals attached! Remember to specify Durham England, or it gets confusing. Also remember that there is a City of Durham in Durham County. Lots of the villages have a website, and it is worth trying 'Hartlepool AND History' etc. These sites will give you an idea of what the villages and towns were like, and some include information on past residents. Best wishes, John Arrowsmith
