Both the New York arrival record and the Hamburg departure record show Caecilie's last name as SCHLICKER. So I think we can probably safely assume that that was her correct last name -- one reason being that there is no such name in Germany as "Schleke"! Heinrich of course later americanized his first name to Henry. Both the New York arrival record and the Hamburg departure record show their last place of residence as having been Hamburg. So Hamburg was not simply the port their ship left from. They had both actually been living in Hamburg. This does not mean, however, that either one of them was necessarily born in Hamburg. Both the New York arrival record and the Hamburg departure record show last place of residence, not place of birth. One or both of them may well have been born in Hamburg, but not necessarily. Their initial destination was the city of Quincy in Ad Notify Administrator about this message?
