Arnot Family Genealogy Forum

Hi Mark, I was going through some Arnot Family history lately after looking at a book called the History of Troy. The section on the Arnot family shows a picture of the family at a 1917 50th anniversary of your grgrgrgrandfather, James Anderson Arnot b.Nov 7,1846 in Carroll Co. Indiana. The photo was Taken before your grandfather Wes was born. It does have your great uncle Merle in it as a baby. The photo also has your grgrgrandfather Sid Arnot b.1878-d.1948 and grgrgrandmother Nellie Arnot. The article tells that James Anderson ARNOTT at 19 enlisted in the Indiana Infantry Company A-46th Regiment on Feb 19 1865. He was Discharged Sept 4, 1865 at the end of the Civil War. On Oct 15, 1867 he married Mary Catherine Wingard. Between 1880 and 1886 they moved to Miller, S.Dakota. In 1891 they moved west by railroad and settled on American Ridge near Troy. It says about this time he dropped the 2nd "T" from Arnott. James died Aug 12,1933 at Nampa, Idaho. James Father is Jacob Arnott b.Oct 26,1814 in Monroe Co. W.Virginia and mother Rebecca Thomas b. 1818. They were married Jan 2,1836. Jacob Arnott's fahter is William Truesdale Arnott b.Sept 1789 d.1863 in Monroe Co. W.Virginia. William married Mary Garten Jan 29,1812. Williams parents are Henry Arnott b.Mar 12,1761 Orange Co. NY -d. May 26,1847 Monroe Co. and Elizabeth Mary Truesdale b.Aug 15,1760- d.Dec 30,1840. They were married Aug 15,1780 in Sussex Co. N.J. Henry Arnott's parents are Isaac Arnott b.May 30,1726 Elizabethtown N.J. d.Nov 19,1801 and Hannah White b.Jan 15,1732/33- d. Jan 10,1823.They were married 1749 in Elizabethtown, NJ. Isaac Arnott's parents are James Arnott b. about 1695 in Elizabethtown NJ -d.1778 and Elizabeth Blanchard b. about 1698. They were married 1714 in Elizabethtown. James Arnott's parents are James Arnott b.before 1675 in England -d.after 1726 in Elizabethtown NJ and a lady with the last name of Whitehead. The info from Jacob Arnott on back I got from an entry off Rootsweb.com posted by Leonard Kountz. I hope this helps with your search. I did not find anything connecting the family to Scotland but then this record only goes back to 1675. Say hi to cousin Leon for me. My mother Wanda is your grandpa Wesley's sister. Rod Sodorff
